Camio Overview

Founded by former Google executives, Camio uses existing cameras and AI to enable software solutions in every industry to see and understand the world. The Camio real-time video search and alerting platform provides real-time security and business insights for safer, more efficient and profitable operations. Camio currently provides real-time video search for manufacturing, logistics operations, multi-property management, healthcare, retail, and educational institutions across 35 time zones.

Position Mandate

Embed directly with strategic customers to deploy Camio platform into complex environments, write production code to bridge gaps, and solve high-stakes challenges where standard solutions fail. Act as the technical face of Camio and the customer's most trusted partner at the intersection of product engineering, technical consulting, and business strategy.

Candidate Profile

Must Have

Full-stack generalist who can architect solutions, write integration code, debug deployment issues, and optimize database queries
Thrives with autonomy in ambiguity, translating customer outcomes into technical solutions without constant direction
Product intuition to distinguish between custom solutions and platform features
Can explain technical tradeoffs to executives, debug with IT teams, and present ROI to procurement
Commercial instincts to recognize revenue opportunities and frame expansion opportunities to stakeholders

Nice to Have

Direct experience in GxP-compliant environments (pharma, biotech, med device) with validation requirements, change control, and audit trails
Technical consulting or professional services experience as a trusted technical advisor embedded with enterprise customers

About the Role

Camio exists to solve the hardest operational problems in environments where precision, compliance, and speed matter every day. We transform visual data into real-time operational intelligence for industries where human performance and product quality are non-negotiable. From pharmaceutical clean rooms to critical assembly lines, our platform turns visual data into operational intelligence that prevents losses, ensures compliance, and drives efficiency.

We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) who operates at the intersection of product engineering, technical consulting, and business strategy.

In this role, you will embed directly with our most strategic customers—deploying our platform into complex environments, writing production code to bridge gaps, and solving high-stakes challenges where standard "out-of-the-box" solutions fail. You are the technical face of Camio, and the customer’s most trusted partner.

You will own the success of the deployment end-to-end — architecture, integration, implementation, and sustained performance. This role is measured by operational outcomes, not activity.

You will work on problems at the intersection of human behavior, machine intelligence, and operational risk — where your engineering decisions have immediate real-world consequences.

What You’ll Do

  • Embed & Execute: Integrate closely with customer teams to deploy Camio’s platform. You will act as Camio’s primary technical representative to the customer, working closely with their teams to ensure successful deployment, navigating infrastructure, security constraints, and unique workflows to ensure our technology delivers immediate value.
  • Code for Production: This is an engineering role. You will write robust, scalable code (Python, Kubernetes, or similar tools) to build custom integrations, data pipelines, and extensions that make our platform work in the customer's specific environment.
  • The Strategic Bridge: Act as the bi-directional link between the field and HQ. You will translate customer friction points into technical specifications for our Product team, ensuring that today’s bespoke solutions become tomorrow’s core features.
  • Solve the "Last Mile": Take ownership of the technical success of the engagement. From architecture design to final implementation, you ensure the solution actually solves the business problem, not just the technical one.

What We’re Looking For

  • Full-Stack Generalist Mindset: You can architect a solution, write the integration code, debug deployment issues, and optimize database queries—whatever the problem demands. You should be comfortable working with Python, containerized services, cloud-native architectures, and modern integration frameworks. You don’t need to know our stack on day one — you do need to be the person who learns it fast.
  • Autonomy in Ambiguity: You thrive when given a customer outcome ("reduce line downtime by 20%") rather than a specification document. You can translate business problems into technical solutions without constant direction.
  • Product Intuition: You recognize patterns across deployments and can distinguish between "this customer needs a custom solution" and "this should be a platform feature."
  • Communication & Trust-Building: You will operate as the technical counterpart to plant managers, IT and security teams, quality leaders, and executives, translating seamlessly between technical detail, operational reality, and business impact.
  • Commercial Instincts: You don’t just close tickets; you help uncover where Camio can deliver additional value. You identify broader value opportunities in partnership with the account team, ensuring that technical insights translate into meaningful operational and commercial impact for the customer.

Preferred Qualifications

While we value strong generalist engineers, we have a strong preference for candidates who understand the high-stakes environments our customers operate in.

  • Regulated Manufacturing Experience: Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (pharma, biotech, med device) is a strong advantage — particularly if you’ve navigated GxP validation, change control processes, OT/IT boundaries, or compliance-driven workflows.
  • Technical Consulting or Professional Services: You've been the "trusted technical advisor" embedded with enterprise customers, managing implementations from scoping through go-live.

What a Typical Month Looks Like

Here’s how your work will typically flow across a month, balancing engineering, deployment, and customer collaboration:

  • Week 1: Remote work designing integration architecture for a new pharmaceutical customer, including daily standups with their IT and operations teams to clarify SOPs and decision data.
  • Week 2: Build production code for custom data pipeline integrations and real-time monitoring extensions using natural language policy enforcement.
  • Week 3: 2-day on-site visit to commission the deployment, train operators, and troubleshoot edge cases with the on-site engineering team—while filing issues and closing support tickets.
  • Week 4: Back remote, documenting deployment patterns and presenting a "lessons learned" session to the Camio product team to shape roadmap priorities.

Before You Apply

Ask yourself:

  • Are you comfortable with the ambiguity of "make it work" rather than "implement this spec"?
  • Can you context-switch between writing Python, presenting to executives, and debugging network configurations—sometimes in the same day?
  • Do you get energized by customer problems, or do you prefer heads-down product development?
  • Are you willing to travel to monthly customer engagements: 2-3 day site visits, typically one per month?

If you prefer narrow scopes, fully defined specifications, or workstreams isolated from customers, this role will not be a fit.

Why Join Camio?

You’ll join a small, senior, high-trust team solving urgent problems for the world’s most critical manufacturers. Your work will shape product direction, customer success, and the next chapter of Camio’s growth — with direct visibility into the real-world outcomes your code enables.

We like to work alongside curious, passionate people. So even if you don’t meet the exact specifications, feel free to apply.
